November 23,2021

There are more and more ergonomic chairs and desks sold on the market with different shapes and styles but they are expensive in common. Are you searching for a more economical way to acquire an ergonomic workstation? Please read on. We are going to show you how to set up your chair and desk ergonomically, preventing pain later on in life.

As we all know, ergonomic chairs and desks benefit people a lot since they can relieve the strain on the back muscles, and reduce shoulder pain. But ergonomic chair and desk is not something new, its core idea is to build a friendly human body workstation. We can achieve this by adjusting our own chair and desk which can be even more suitable for ourselves.

To adjust your chair (the premise is that your chair is height adjustable chair)

The desks sold on the market are not built for you but for the whole people so the desk height could be too tall or too short for you. But it could be solved by adjusting your chair. What you need to do is to adjust the height of your chair until your elbows could be bent to 90 degrees. If the desk and chair are much taller so that your feet can not touch the floor a footstool would be the best choice. If you don’t want to pay for a footrest, you can also choose a ream of paper.

To adjust your monitor

What you need to do is to adjust your monitor till the distance between you and the monitor is about an arm’s length and the top of the screen is your eye level. Therefore, you can read easily without leaning forward or straining your eyes. If your computer is still lower than your eye level and it is not a height-adjustable monitor, you can raise it up by using a hard carton.

But there are some people working with two monitors or multiple monitors. In this condition, you can select one as your main monitor and set it in front of you directly. The remaining monitors you can set up freely as long as you feel comfortable reading. We recommend you to spring for a tiltable monitor arm that allows you to swivel your monitor and multiple monitor arms allow you to install with two or four monitors.

The width of a laptop is usually too short to reach your eye level. So you had better use a kickstand to lift your screen up to the appropriate height.

To set up your mouse and your keyboard

Your mouse should be close enough to your keyboard. You should learn to move your elbow rather than your shoulder which could prevent overuse or strain or pain.

Most of us can’t afford a set of ergonomic workstations but we can try our best to make our office more convenient and more comfortable with small gadgets such as footstool and hard carton as well as monitor arms. however, a height-adjustable office chair would be an indispensable item for a DIY ergonomic workstation.

In addition, the most important thing you need to do is to get up from your chair every hour. Get up and walk, get something to eat, get something to drink. Just get up.
